Pam Tobias via email:
I’ve had MS for 20 yrs and prefer using my walker (one where I can sit If I need to). I have a power chair but prefer using my walker.
The problem is besides all my other pain, USING MY WALKER CAUSES CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME. Because I lean all my weight on my hand bending at the wrist! I’m taking art & writing classes and carry things on top of my walker (including at home – coffee cup, etc). I was thinking about some kind of handle bar to grip that curls up; like a verticle handle bar where I DON’T bend my wrist! Do you understand me? Is there something out there like that already?
Sometimes I lean on my knuckles to stand up when we sing at church OR on my walker other times. But thats hard to do for any length of time! My pain is worse all the time and I’m sure many others have this problem.
If anyone is already working on this can you refer me to them? I appreciate your help in this matter. Thanks

I wonder if there might be a walker out there that has arm supports/handles a bit like the crutches used by people who have arthritis or injured/painful hands:

Or if not, whether it would be possible to safely attach these arm supports to an existing rollator/walker. Will ask around and see if I can find out any more information or suggestions for you.
Hi there,
Kingkraft can provide a walking frame with gutter arm rests, see our website for more details: http://bit.ly/pi1lnH however there are no pictures of the frame with the particular arm rests, let me know if you require further images though!
Hello Pam,
I’ve now had a look round on the web for you and came across the Topro Troja walker with forearm support:

which includes the following features and benefits:
Hope this helps! Would be great if you could let us know what you think and what you decide to go for in the end : )
Hi there, this walker looks amazing. I wonder if I could use it? I’ve been looking for something similar for a while as I too have M.S. and am getting increasingly wobbly (vertigo – a new and unwelcome symptom) on the single elbow crutch which I use to walk. My problem with ordinary walkers is that extreme spasticity in my right arm and hand means that the arm is always bent and also, very weak – hence only one crutch, two won’t work for me. If anyone out there gets one of these or has used one maybe they could let us know how they get on? Cheers and good luck Pam, Jackie
