Sony Ericsson W995 Mobile Phone

by Denise, June 24, 2009 11:42 PM

Having had a whole catalogue of problems with my old mobile phone, the time had finally come for me to trade mine in for a new model. I did have my heart set on getting a smartphone (either a Google or i-Phone), but this would mean changing networks and all the faff that goes with it.

So I called my trusty mobile phone provider to see what they had to say for themselves. Not yet decided, I had a long chat with the advisor about the pros and cons of moving providers. They were pretty adamant that I should give the W995 a week's trial to see how I got on and were confident that I would like it. If for any reason I wasn't happy I could return it and carry on with my plans to move, in which case I had nothing to lose.

The W995 is a nice looking, sturdy phone with a smooth slider mechanism which is easy to use. Although not a smartphone, it has the usual standard features as well as an 8.1 megapixel camera and walkman music player with audio jack.

I have numb and sometimes weak fingers, which means that my dexterity isn't particularly good. Therefore, key size and spacing is extremely important to me when choosing a phone. I found that the keys were easy to press without having to use too much force, however from time to time this can lead to me pressing a key twice by accident due to tremor. The keys are nicely spaced out, so there is less chance of pressing more than one key at the same time (useful for people with larger fingers too!). The phone automatically locks when you slide it closed, saving you from having to press any fiddly key combinations.

The phone's text is a good size and for me is easy to read, graphics are also sharp and clear.

All in all I've found this phone much easier to use than my previous mobile. Writing text messages is no longer a nightmare due to well spaced out, easy to press keys. The phone layout, although different from my previous one, is relatively easy to get to grips with and the text size is a great improvement.

I've only had my phone for a week, so I'm still learning about what it has to offer. If I do find out about any other interesting features I'll keep you posted by adding a comment below.

For this product review I've focused on the features of the phone that make it easy for me to use, for more information on standard features click on the link above.
