... to keep out critters would be great. Not only would it keep out wild life that should not be eating our garbage anyway but it would also keep the water out.

Would you want a bin that has this mechanism already built in or would you be looking for a gadget that you could fix on to your existing bin? I would definitely be interested in a mechanism that could be easily engaged/disengaged with a small amount of strength and without needing to apply too much pressure. Also, an easy-to-grip device would be a must for me!

Would some sort of clip-on magnetic device be any good, I wonder? It would have to be powerful enough to keep wildlife out, but easy enough to open without too much effort.

Walmart sells a bag of carpenters hand clamps for about 5.00 is has 32 pieces or 16 either way the large handclamps in there are strong enough to keep out anything and have a big enoug mouth or reach to hold any garbege can lid down
