Anyone who saw last night’s The Last Leg on Channel 4 will have seen Adam Hills’s amazing new ‘Terminator’ prosthetic leg/foot. Which Russell Brand then managed to break.

As someone who wears prosthetic legs myself, the idea of custom paint jobs and designs is something that is extremely appealing and is becoming more and more popular. After all, it means us limbless types can get the equivalent of tattoos, except that we don’t have to watch them fade as we get all old and wrinkly. We can change ours like Wurzel Gummidge changed his heads.

In all seriousness though (sort of) customising prosthetics is a really emerging field and lets amputees express themselves and their interests in a very specific way. Just last weekend I saw little Rio Woolf meet his heroes Jonnie Peacock and Richard Whitehead wearing his customised ‘blade’ decorated with Fireman Sam.

If it’s good enough for Rio and Adam Hills, it’s good enough for me.
