Can good design save the world?

This is the question that an article in this month's issue of National Geographic is asking.

Faced with environmental, well-being and health related challenges in developing countries, innovative designers are stepping up to the mark by creating well-designed yet affordable products to meet these needs.

    Dear Prime Minister…

Following Wednesday's comprehensive spending review, I think it's safe to say that the country has been left reeling, wondering what the next four years and the future holds. One particular community fearing what the cuts will mean to their day-to-day lives, support and care, is that of people living with disabilities and long-term health conditions.

  •
Early last month we launched the search for an online community manager extraordinaire to join our small, yet (we like to think) perfectly formed team at Enabled by Design. We certainly weren't disappointed with the quality and diversity of applications, so thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to apply!

After much umming and aahing, we'd managed to narrow the applications down to the final four, but were hard pressed to pick out the one. So to help us make the final decision, we decided to have a good old fashioned chat over the telephone with each person to find out what really makes them tick...

It only feels like yesterday that I took time out to go to the Web Accessibility London 2010 unconference (a11yLDN) held at City University. But no, it's now been three weeks, much to my disbelief, and so I think it's high time I tell you a little bit about the day. So here goes...

Always a good starting point, the first session was dedicated to exploring the million dollar question, "What is web accessibility?" and importantly how can we make it happen...

  • I know, I know, things have been pretty quiet on the Enabled by Design blog in recent weeks, but please don't let that fool you into thinking we've been sitting around idly twiddling our thumbs and drinking cups of tea (well, not at the same time at least!). No, we've been super-busy recruiting for our new online community manager role (more news to follow next week), attending events (Web Accessibility 2010 unconference and Naidex South blogs are both in the pipeline), as well as making moves to redevelop the Enabled by Design website, so all in all some pretty exciting stuff

Changes are afoot so we need your feedback on our website! : )
