Accessibility

We at Enabled by Design are, as you might well have guessed, entirely committed to making our website as accessible as possible to everyone. Unfortunately achieving this isn't always as easy as we would like and currently we can only implement certain accessibility options. We are researching ways to make our site easier to use and will be adding/changing features for this purpose in the near future.

Watch this space for more options and tutorials on using various accessibility boosting services with EbD.

In the meantime, you can check out the Audio Feed for our blog here.

Thank you for your patience!

Is it possible to turn off the FCK editor so I can just use a text box for typing in? I find this easier for my assistive tech to cope with!

Allo : ) Thanks a lot for your comment. I hate them too but only because I am a geek who was born with a command-line in his mouth ; )

The short answer is yes : ) We should be able to disable the editor and swap it for a simple text box. The main reason for implementing it in the first place is for the easy insertion of images and that is functionality many would like to retain so I will work out a solution to make everyone happy ; )

Just to satisfy my curiosity, could you please tell me what tech you are using that is having difficulty dealing with the editor?

I'll try my best to find a work-around or solution that allows the choice of a standard text box or a wysiyg editor as that seems the best solution

Thanks again for raising the point, it may take a little while to implement the change but rest assured, I'm on it ; )

All the best

Andy (Geek in Residence)

Thanks Andy, I was born to the command line and the mighty tcsh is my choice. I was meaning more can you implement it as an option, so I can go to my settings page (which doesn't currently exist, BTW, I'm thinking here...) and choose to use the editor or the plain one. I understand most people are not command line geeks :(

The problem is that I often end up hitting a random link or my back button by mistake which (most often) wipes the contents of any form. I have a nifty Firefox extension called Lazarus which will restore them but it only copes with plain things, not the fancy editor. I had written a long long comment today about the laser keyboard and accidentally deleted the @#$* thing just before posting by accidentally switching pages, hence the timing of my request!

Thank you so very much! Geeks are cool.

Cheers,
Ricky
